Merle L. Beller
(December 29, 1940 - September 2, 2022)

Ferndale, Washington - Merle Beller died suddenly after quickly progressive lung disease. He was born in Dixon, IL to Elwin and Iva Beller and had one brother, George.

Merle graduated from high school in 1958, then enlisted in the US Navy where he specialized in electronics and telecommunications for 22 years. He retired as a CWO-4 before embarking on a second 22 year career with ARCO in Anchorage, AK. His military service took him as far as Japan and Scotland, but his favorite post was Adak, AK, where he spent time boating and fishing the Bering Sea in his free time.

Merle enjoyed 46 years of marriage to his wife, Joan, who died 10 years ago. They spent many years together piloting boats, small planes, and helicopters throughout Alaska along with their only child. They volunteered several times as amateur radio operators at checkpoints along the Iditarod trail. In retirement, Merle drove the night bus during turnaround at BP, served on the Ferndale city council, and traveled with his wife and dear friends, Clyde and Netta Collins.

Merle did his best to share his tools, time, skills, and knowledge with whomever asked. He faultlessly cared for his wife and friend Clyde through end-stage illnesses. Per his wishes, no service will be held. Per his family's wishes, if you knew Merle, please raise a glass and share a laugh in his memory.

Here's a start: normally a plaid guy, Merle died wearing his only floral shirt. Party on, Dad.
