David Thomas Winder
(1940 - July 9, 2010)

David Thomas Winder, 69, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010 of Lou Gehrig's Disease. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 2 pm in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.

Mr. Winder was born in Dixon, Illinois, where he was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church. He served in the United States Air Force in the Radar Division in Vietnam. After his military service he worked for the U. S. Postal Service in Raleigh, NC, retiring in 1998. He was lifelong Chicago Cubs baseball fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack T. Winder and Bernice Bower Winder Miller, and a sister, Carolyn Raspiller.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Peaden Winder; daughter, Lori Lovelace and husband, Sam, of Virginia Beach, VA; grandchildren, Sam and Kelly, of Virginia Beach, VA; brother, Jack Winder and wife, Thellis, of Palm City, FL; brother in-law, Floyd Raspiller, of Yorkville, IL; nieces, Laura Raspiller of Yorkville, IL, and Beth Wille and husband, Chris, and their children, Claire and Alex, all of Oswego, IL; and a nephew, Ted Raspiller, of Norfolk, VA.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 7:30 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association Carolinas Chapter, 1425-113 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh, NC 27610.
